Yes, on 29 July 2013 fees were introduced at the employment tribunal in all UK countries, except Northern Ireland. These range from £260 to £1,200 depending on the category of the claim. Ministry of Justice figures show that this led to a 79 per cent reduction in claims from October to December last year compared with the same period in 2012. Unison, the public sector union, believes that the fees breach European law and are currently seeking a judicial review. An employment tribunal is often not the best way to tackle problems at work and, in the first instance, speak to your CSP steward or, if you do not have a steward, contact the CSP.
