Editor's comment: From global to local

Members of the worldwide physiotherapy family gathered a few days ago in Singapore for their four-yearly conference.

The CSP played a significant role in the proceedings, as our Physio Findings column outlines. And, as the World Confederation of Physiotherapy’s outgoing president, Marilyn Moffat, said: ‘We all have a responsibility to make the world better for those we serve.’

That’s true whether you’re in Singapore, Stirling or Scunthorpe. There’s still much to be learnt from colleagues in the UK.

Take the article on asking about how to ask your patients about possible recreational drug use, for example. Or the continuing professional development piece about understanding the politics of your workplace.

The phrase ‘think global, act local’ comes to mind. While CSP members may be part of an international family, they can and do act locally. Many of you took up the call to ask your prospective parliamentary candidate about their plans for physiotherapy, for instance – and thanks to those who did that.

As the new UK government emerges, CSP staff will continue to promote the value of physiotherapy. But it’s up to every member to push that message locally too.
