Better health

Better Health campaigns

Two adult health campaigns focus on combatting adult obesity and the other aims to encourage people to quit smoking. Better Health Adult Obesity aims to motivate and support adults to achieve a healthy weight, eat more healthily and increase their physical activity. It also signposts people to a range of support tools on the Better Health website, including the NHS weight loss plan app.

The Better Health Quit Smoking campaign encourages smokers to make a quit attempt by focussing on the benefits of quitting and the support available to help them stay quit. 

Terrence Higgins Trust

This charity is the largest voluntary sector provider of HIV and sexual health services in the UK, campaigning for and offering support to those living with HIV. 

FFLAG

FFLAG is dedicated to helping parents and families understand, accept and support their lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans family members with love and pride. Find out more

Mermaids

An LGBTQIA+ charity that empowers thousands of people with its secure online communities, local community groups, helpline services, web resources, events and residential weekends. Switchboard LGBT+ Helpline

Staffed by volunteers who identify as LGBTQIA+, this switchboard offers support on 0300 330 0630 from 10am-10pm daily. Switchboard LGBT+Helpline 

Naz & Matt Foundation

Founded by Matt Mahmood-Ogston, after his fiancé Naz took his own life due to conflict with his religious family over his sexuality, this charity builds bridges between religious and LGBTQIA+ communities. It is launching a free to access book for religious parents of LGBTQIA+ individuals. 

Moving Medicine

Moving Medicine provides a range of free resources to help healthcare professionals integrate physical activity conversations into their routine clinical care. The Moving Medicine initiative was created by the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine UK.

And the CSP has officially endorsed their consensus statement, which outlines why the benefits of physical activity for people living with long-term conditions ‘far outweigh the risks’.  

The telerehab toolkit

This online toolkit offers practical guidance and resources to help teams, students and health and social care practitioners to develop their knowledge and skills about how to deliver telerehab. 

The toolkit was developed by researchers from the University of Plymouth, along with patients and collaborators from NHS trusts in Devon and Cornwall, and covers the remote assessment and management of people with movement impairment and disability, including people recovering from Covid-19. 

ME/chronic fatigue syndrome training for health professionals

The Scottish Government is offering free online support and CPD training about the diagnosis and management of myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME)/chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). Funding has been provided to UK charity Action for M.E. to provide a free online CPD module to healthcare  professionals.

The charity is also offering a series of complimentary ‘Learn about M.E.’ podcasts to accompany the module, which include the voice and perspective of those with lived experience. The latest podcast, which covers the recent changes to NICE guidance on ME/CFS, addresses the adjustments that need to take place in practice to meet the new advice in the guideline.

CFHealthHub

CFHealthHub is a digital learning health system that aims to help adults with cystic fibrosis (CF) manage their condition and monitor their medicine use. Physiotherapists have been integral to the development and delivery of the system, which focuses on adherence to maintenance therapies and developing self-care habits for people with CF.

In addition, the system offers support, allows users to attend virtual clinics and enables remote access to monitor medicines adherence.
