The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy has welcomed 'long overdue' plans to move more services for people with learning disabilities out of hospital and into the community.

Catherine Pope, chair of council for the CSP, said:

“These plans would ensure people with learning disabilities are treated closer to home and in a way that is based around their individual needs.

“It is long overdue, and there remain some questions to be answered regarding both detail and funding, but we welcome the clear shift towards this patient-centred approach.

"Physiotherapists deliver many key services that enable people with learning disabilities to live independently in their community and these plans should support that important work."
