Back on Track Physiotherapy and Sports Injuries Clinic, based in Catford, south east London, has sponsored local Olympians Jade Johnson, Joyce Maduaka and Sarah Claxton and other young athletes from local clubs.

The clinic, which employs three physios and a sports masseur, is currently backing Serita Solomon who recently won a European indoor silver medal in the 60m sprint hurdles, and is training for next year’s Rio Olympics.

Lewisham Council said the clinic had been running successfully for more than nine years and had built up a loyal clientele based on word of mouth recommendation.

‘We want to reward businesses that do that little bit more to help, the kind which customers return to again and again and which regulars recommend to people they know,’ the council said.

Clinical director Paul O’Hara who is a chartered physiotherapist said: ‘It was nice to get a bit of recognition. For the last seven or eight years we have been sponsoring various local athletes who are on the cusp of success to help them achieve their goals.

‘At the moment the situation with official Sport England sponsorship is “no performance no funding” which is a real double-edged sword for young athletes.’
