Occupational health physio Jayanti Rai received the fellowship at the society’s conference, which was held in Dublin this summer.

BESS award the fellowship to one allied health professional every year, in recognition of their contribution to shoulder and elbow services.

The fellowship will allow Ms Rai, who works at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Trust, to attend international conferences and spend time with leading upper limb surgeons and their rehab teams in Liverpool, Belgium, Sweden and the US.

She will also act as a BESS ambassador and hopes to gain skills that will benefit complex upper limb patients in East Kent trust’s area. In addition she aims to establish long-term collaborative links, in education and research, between East Kent Hospitals and healthcare centres abroad.

Ms Rai told Frontline she was ‘extremely grateful to the BESS selection committee, research and education committee,’ for their support of her research proposals and for the selected destinations she will visit.
