Physio staff need a pay rise says CSP after budget disappointment

‘Extra money for the NHS is of course welcome but it falls far short of what everyone outside of the Treasury agrees is needed,’ she said after the chancellor’s statement on Wednesday.

Philip Hammond said that £350 million would be available immediately for the NHS which would allow trusts to plan for this winter.

There would be a further £1.6 billion in 2018-19, with the balance available in 2019-20, he said.

Mr Hammond confirmed that the government would fund whatever salary increase the independent pay review body recommended for staff next year.

‘The government cannot keep providing just enough to keep the lights on,’ said Ms Sullivan. ‘The NHS must be properly supported to maintain quality care and transform services for the future.

‘This should include funding a fair pay award for NHS staff who have lost thousands of pounds in real terms pay since 2010.

‘Indeed, workers across the public sector have suffered during this period and it’s time for the government to step up and deliver a pay rise for all.’
