The award was made by Cardiff University. It recognised Ms Davies’ excellent work in ensuring that the university’s physiotherapy students get the most from their placements.

For the past four years, Ms Davies has worked at Priory Day Hospital, Glangwili, part of the Hywel Dda University Health Board.

Throughout this time, she has mentored students, one of whom nominated her for the award.

‘Catrin helped me gain confidence during my placement, something that I am very grateful to her for - I will speak more Welsh in my future career as a physiotherapist,’ the nomination read.

Enhance experience

Ms Davies told Frontline: ‘It’s nice to have students who speak Welsh and to enhance their experience in the Welsh language.

‘This is a very Welsh speaking part of the world and many patients are fluent in the Welsh language.’

She said that students from Cardiff stay with her for four weeks at a time. During this time, they see neuro patients at the hospital and in their own homes.

‘We try to get the students involved in assessments and treatment from day one,’ she said.

‘And we seek to give them the best placement and to enhance their experience as much as possible.’
