CSP backs new public health resource for AHPs

Physiotherapy staff can now access an online hub that provides guidance and key documents about the role of allied health professionals (AHPs) in public health.

The UK AHP Public Health Hub contains toolkits, strategies, case studies, evidence and evaluation reports, blogs and comprehensive information about the contributions AHPs make to public health.

The free online resource was launched today by the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH).

It was developed by RSPH in collaboration with CSP and other AHP professional bodies, as well as the UK’s four Chief Allied Health Professions Officers, Public Health England and the community interest group AHPs4PH.

Supporting AHP-led service redesign

Commenting on the new virtual space, Linda Hindle, Public Health England’s AHP lead, said: ‘Its purpose is to enable AHPs to easily locate and access the documents they need to embed public health into their roles.

‘And to support them to lead service redesign and contribute to system leadership opportunities to improve the health and well-being of their local populations.

‘It will also support system leaders to see how AHPs can add value to population health.’

CSP professional adviser Abigail Henderson added that:

Physiotherapists can make a significant contribution to population health.

‘This new resource is an exciting development to support the continued implementation of health prevention and promotion into physiotherapy practice.’

A wide range of resources

Some of the resources included on the hub include:

  • A recently revised toolkit to embed public health into clinical practice
  • Curricula guidance for AHP pre-registration education
  • Social prescribing framework for Allied Health Professionals
  • Public Health England’s All Our Health framework
  • A series of resources for health and care professionals working with patients and the population aimed at preventing illness, protecting health and promoting wellbeing
  • Everyday Interactions Toolkit which provides impact pathways to enable recording of healthy conversations.

Ms Hindle said:

I encourage all AHPs to check out the hub and submit examples from practice to enable ongoing sharing and learning about the AHP contribution to public health
