CSP supports plans for new East Midlands NHS rehab centre

Nottingham and Nottinghamshire CCG is currently consulting on plans to develop a 63-bed, purpose-built inpatient NHSRC on the Stanford Hall Rehabilitation Estate, which also houses the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre.

Its aim is to give people in the East Midlands (Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire) wider access to high quality rehabilitation for neurological problems, complex MSK, traumatic amputation, spinal injury and Covid-19. Existing inpatient rehabilitation beds based at Linden Lodge, Nottinghamshire will be transferred to the new facility.

The CSP is sharing its views and concerns on the proposal by responding to the consultation survey, and is encouraging members in the East Midlands to contribute their own feedback. The survey closes on 18 September.

Ruth ten Hove, CSP assistant director for practice and development, said: ‘The CSP supports the plans to develop a purpose-built rehab centre. It will go a long way to meeting the need for specialist inpatient rehabilitation in the region, as well as providing an example for other parts of the country.

‘While it is encouraging to see this investment, we believe people requiring complex inpatient rehab must be supported to reach their full potential by having the ability to access community rehab services as part of an integrated pathway of care.'

Kevin Dale, trade union negotiation and organising officer, added: ‘As these proposals develop, it is important that there is full and meaningful engagement with staff and their representative bodies to manage the change effectively, and we will work with local stewards to support CSP members currently working at the sites earmarked for closure.’
