The NHS Confederation released a poll that found that nine in 10 healthcare leaders in England say it should continue to be a legal requirement for people to wear masks in all healthcare settings, apart from where exemptions apply.
The CSP joined other professional bodies and trade unions, including the RCM and Unite, in supporting the position, arguing that it is essential to protect staff and patients across the UK.
CSP chief executive Karen Middleton said: 'This is a precarious moment as restrictions are removed while cases continue to grow.
'Face coverings restrict the spread of the virus to protect us all so it is essential that they continue to be worn in healthcare settings to keep patients and staff safe.
'Our members and their colleagues have demonstrated extraordinary courage and commitment throughout the pandemic and it is our moral duty to protect them.'
Restrictions are lifting at different times across the four countries. CSP members can get the most up-to-date advice from our coronavirus pages
