Government makes offer for talks on NHS pay in England

The offer was sent to the NHS group of unions but more detail is being sought before proceeding.

CSP assistant director Elaine Sparkes, who is secretary of the NHS group of unions, said a decision on whether to enter talks and pause strikes would only be possible with that information.

‘We need to know the basis of the talks, including their remit and how they align with those ongoing with the Royal College of Nursing, before we respond to the invitation,’ she added.

On Monday, the CSP announced a further strike in England on 22 March and that action remains on course to go ahead at present.

The NHS staff council is made up of representatives from health unions, NHS employers, the Department of Health and Social Care, and NHS England.

Last week, Elaine and Sara Gorton, the chair of the union group, wrote to Health Secretary Steve Barclay urging him to get formal pay talks underway through the NHS staff council.

The union side of the NHS staff council is made up of representatives from: the CSP, the British Association of Occupational Therapists, British Dietetic Association, British Orthoptic Society, Royal College of Podiatry, Federation of Clinical Scientists, GMB, Managers in Partnership, Prison Officers Association, Royal College of Nursing, Royal College of Midwives, Society of Radiographers, UNISON and Unite.
