Unions accept NHS pay offer in England

Health unions including the CSP have voted to accept the UK government’s offer on NHS pay.

The offer would provide an additional bonus worth around £2,000 for most members on top of the £1,400 award received in 2022/23 by members, along with a consolidated increase of five per cent for 23/24.

A meeting of the NHS Staff Council, which brings together trade unions, NHS Employers and the Department of Health and Social Care, endorsed implementation of the offer today based on the majority decision of the trade unions.

Members working in the NHS in England voted in favour of the deal in the CSP’s consultation by a margin of 65-35 on a turnout of 60 per cent.

Claire Sullivan, director of employment relations at the CSP, called on the government to implement it immediately.

‘Health unions have voted clearly to accept the offer so it is important that the government does not delay in making it available to NHS staff,’ she said.

‘While far from perfect, it does go some way to helping members manage the cost of living crisis and is a significant improvement on the initial position from the government which was for no further rise in 2022/23.

However, we have made clear to the government that our members accepted the offer with extreme reluctance and we will continue to fight for fair pay for NHS staff.

The CSP will update members once a timetable for implementation is agreed with the government.
