Public Health England (PHE) has published new information about coronavirus for health care professionals, to help them advise the public and take action if needed.

Patients and their families may ask for advice and CSP members should know how to respond. The UK government this week declared the virus ‘a serious and imminent threat to public health’.

The information, which is being updated regularly, includes several publications, each focussing on different clinical settings or scenarios.

It covers preventing the spread of infections and what to do if you or a patient have recently returned from China. It also provides a step-by-step guide to what to do if you become unwell.

There is specific information for healthcare workers working in primary care settings and first responders.

CSP professional adviser Pip White said, ‘It is important that all CSP members are aware of and follow the latest PHE advice in order to look after their own health and that of their patients during this global public health emergency.’
