NHS England has accepted the case of need for including codeine, tramadol, pregablin and gabapentin within any future proposed public consultation to update the controlled-drug prescribing list.

The CSP is continuing to work as part of the Chief Professions Officers Medicines Management (CPOMM) programme in the process of working with the Department of Health and Social Care and the devolved administrations in seeking to obtain the necessary Parliamentary time to take this work forward.

CSP professional adviser Pip White said: ‘We are pleased that this work is now under-way again after a long period of uncertainty. I hope to be able to update members on further progress later in the year.’
