The government has published details of the types of business it intends to allow to remain open during the forthcoming lockdown in England, and the CSP can confirm that physiotherapy is included.
The CSP has been pressing Public Health England (PHE) to confirm CSP expectations that members working in private physiotherapy practice should continue treating patients during the four-week restrictions, due to come into force on 5 November.
While the draft regulations, to be debated in parliament this afternoon, state that 'medical and health services' can keep running, the CSP has received confirmation from PHE that physiotherapy is included in this definition.
The CSP expressed disappointment that physiotherapy was not listed explicitly in the regulations, but is satisfied that the confirmation from PHE allows members to proceed with confidence.
Our advice remains that members in all sectors should seek to continue to run physiotherapy services during the national lockdown, and that all relevant public health rules relating to social distancing and PPE must be followed to keep clinicians and patients as safe as possible.
