The Principles of Practice-Based Learning

A webinar on creating quality student placements was held to showcase a collaboration by the CSP and the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT).

The CSP and RCOT created the Principles of Practice-Based Learning with a shared goal to support the development of quality, sustainable placements for our future workforce. Placements that are designed, developed and evaluated across practice, universities and students to enable them to work better for all.

The webinar, organised by the CSP North East Regional Network and RCOT Northern & Yorkshire region took place yesterday, detailed how the principles are being embedded within the North of England and Yorkshire.

The programme featured:

  • Tamsin Baird, education adviser, CSP, and Carolyn Hay, head of education, RCOT, speaking on the new Practice Education Principles - a new set of principles developed by the CSP and RCOT that can be applied by everyone
  • Steph Sloan, dietetic lecturer, Teesside University, showcasing placement expansion work by sharing evaluation and results of placement expansion work in non-NHS settings and the opportunities dietetic students have had as a result these settings and their development as a result of this
  • Jill Kent, physiotherapy lecturer, Teesside University, sharing the impact of the new Practice Education Principles 
  • A Q&A session with the panel. Additional answers that were not answered live during the event.
