The CSP has condemned an attack on a Pride event in Bristol last Sunday. Avon and Somerset Police are investigating the pellet gun attack as a hate crime.

Violence against the LGBTQIA+ community is all too common – 29 per cent of LGBTQIA+ people have experienced physical assaults and 92 per cent verbal abuse.

Ishmael Beckford, chair of the CSP Council said: 'Our LGBTQIA+ members and staff face intimidation on social media, at work and in education. So an attack on Pride, whilst shocking, should not come as a surprise.

'We are committed to standing with the community against hatred and to supporting Pride as both a celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community and culture, and as a protest against homophobia, biphobia and transphobia.'
