Islamophobia is a form of discrimination rooted in racism that targets expressions of Muslimness or perceived Muslimness.
Islamophobia can be found right across society. It can take place in workplaces, in universities, in the media, in political parties, in sport and our wider society. The All Party Parliamentary Group on British Muslims has produced advice on what constitutes Islamophobia.
Islamophobia includes, but is not limited to:
- violence against Muslims because of their identity
- discrimination at work or college
- use of offensive language towards Muslims
- sharing Islamophobic tropes on social media
- blaming all Muslims for the actions of individual Muslims, groups of Muslims or countries perceived to be Muslim
- stereotyping Muslims
