Workplace health status quo must not continue, says CSP

The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy has backed calls from NHS England's chief executive, Simon Stevens, for the government to support employers who deliver workplace health initiatives.

Prof Karen Middleton, chief executive of the CSP, said:

“One in six deaths each year are linked to inactivity and we spend the bulk of our weeks at work so it makes sense for employers to take the lead on this.

“Mr Stevens is right to call for government support to make this happen, but employers need to recognise the benefits for them too, in terms of reduced sickness absence and higher productivity.

“What is clear is that we cannot allow the status quo to continue – we must get people moving, particularly those in sedentary jobs, to keep them fit for work and leading healthier lifestyles.”

Mr Stevens was speaking at the Institute of Directors' annual conference. Read more about the story here.
