This information paper is for physiotherapists interested in - or who are already working - in a country with resource constraints affecting access to healthcare information.
This paper highlights the increasing amount of free material online and to key texts which CSP members and other health professionals have found useful.
In lower or middle income countries there are sometimes barriers to accessing information.
In the past, this has meant that members working abroad have had to take hard copies of books and articles with them.
Before you go abroad, it would be helpful to ask the organisation sending you about local means of accessing information.
If you are not working with an organisation, ask those with whom you will be working.
Whether you are involved in clinical practice, clinical education or management you will need access to information to:
- Expand your knowledge about conditions which might be unfamiliar to you, e.g. leprosy or polio
- Find out more about service models e.g. Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR)
- Assist you with training
- Exchange best practice with colleagues in their practice setting
- Support your personal CPD
You will also need to develop your cultural awareness. This vital aspect of effective practice is dealt with in separate CSP publications.
