First Contact Physio Event in the East of England

The CSP East of England Regional Network hosted the region’s first event focused on first contact physiotherapy (FCP) on Tuesday 3 September.

More than 50 CSP members attended the event alongside commissioners from Essex who were keen to hear more about the profession.

The event opened with an update from Ruth Ten Hove, CSP Assistant Director. Ruth provided an update on NHS England FCP developments and evaluation and encouraged participants to share top FCP priorities in their locality. Themes included training, recruitment, measuring demand and the importance of front of house staff understanding FCP.

Five local FCP case studies were shared by Adam May, Ed Kirby, Tom Beadle, Gary Beauchamp and Billy Fashanu.

The afternoon focused on CPD with Joseph Russell from AHP Suffolk sharing his CPD journey and Andrew Bassett and Caroline Kerry from the University of Essex sharing news on the curriculum and  initial findings from a study on the benefits and challenges of pre-registration placements in MSK FCP settings from the perspectives of MSK FCPs.

The event finished with a clinical CPD session from Dr Nicholas Shenker, Consultant Rheumatologist from Nuffield Health Cambridge Hospital.

Becca Knowles, Honorary Chair of the CSP East of England Regional Network, said:

“The CSP East of England Regional Network core team was very pleased to be able to deliver such a well attended event on such a topical theme and exciting development for the profession. I was pleased to welcome delegates from around the region including commissioners, practising FCPs and service managers and provide then with a chance to discuss their work with fellow FCPs.

“The Regional Network is always looking to work and engage with more CSP members. IF you are interested in becoming more involved in what we do please email me at eastofenglandchair@csp.org.uk or contact us via Twitter @CSP_EoE
